Where Preparation Meets Opportunity.
At Better Future Finders, our mission is simple and bold: We do just that! We help people find a better future — and our Resource Room is one of the clearest expressions of that promise. Though modest in size, this space has become a powerful hub of access, growth, and transformation. It provides the tools and environment many need to move forward with confidence. Recently, the Resource Room has supported:
With free high-speed internet, printing services, learning technology, and a large presentation screen, the room removes barriers and opens doors. As part of our ongoing expansion, the Resource Room will facilitate modules for our Youth Empowerment Program (YEP), using the large screen to host live online sessions with coaches and mentors across the globe — connecting our local youth to global guidance and opportunity. Looking ahead, we are also installing academic preparatory programs and interactive tools to support after-school learning and students who need additional academic reinforcement. The Resource Room is more than a facility. It is vision in action. At Better Future Finders, we don’t just speak about impact. We do just that.

Throughout 2025, Better Future Finders focused intentionally on soft-skill development workshops, Back-to-School with a Purpose events, and Young Leaders meetings for middle school and high school students. These initiatives emphasized leadership development, character formation, goal setting, communication, and practical life skills—equipping students not only for academic success but for life beyond the classroom.
In November 2025, a new chapter began with the opening of the BFF Thrift Store. Created to support the sustainability of BFF programs, the thrift store quickly became both a community resource and a mission engine. Generous donations from community members were transformed into funding that directly supports BFF initiatives, with all proceeds reinvested into programs and services. Beyond financial support, the thrift store also provides hands-on work experience and volunteer opportunities, particularly for young people seeking real-world exposure, responsibility, and skill development in a supportive environment. To further strengthen community involvement and accessibility, donation bins were placed at apartment complexes along Lodges and University Parkway, making it easy for residents to give and actively participate in building better futures for others. Strengthening Access Through the Resource Center One of the most significant milestones of 2025 was the advancement of the BFF Resource Center. Through donated computers and equipment, the center was upgraded and is now fully operational. Open to everyone, the Resource Center offers a welcoming and practical space for resume development, job searching, career planning, skill-building, and digital access. More than a facility, the Resource Center represents hope, dignity, and opportunity—supporting individuals at different stages of life as they work toward stability, growth, employability, and long-term success. Youth Leadership at the Core, Community at the Heart Much of BFF’s momentum has been driven by young college students who are learning to lead by serving. Supported by a small but committed group of adults, these young leaders are gaining real-world leadership experience while positively influencing their peers through responsibility, respect, and service. At the same time, Better Future Finders remains fully inclusive. Adults of all ages, professionals across disciplines, mentors, and volunteers are essential to our mission. We welcome individuals who are willing to contribute their time, skills, and compassion to help those who are earnestly seeking a better future. Looking Ahead: 2026 and Greater Impact As we enter 2026, Better Future Finders does so with clarity, intention, and renewed commitment. The year ahead will focus on expanding leadership development, civic education, mentoring, community service, and career exploration initiatives. These programs are designed to prepare individuals—especially young people—to become confident leaders, informed citizens, and active contributors to their communities. We also look forward to strengthening partnerships with organizations and individuals who share our vision for sustainable community growth. Collaboration remains central to increasing our reach, deepening our impact, and creating lasting change. Moving Forward Together The work of Better Future Finders is not about programs alone—it is about people, pathways, and possibility. With the lessons of 2025 behind us and the promise of 2026 ahead, we move forward committed to doing more, reaching further, and serving better. Better Future Finders — We do just that. Together, we build opportunity. Together, we create impact. The Better Future Finders (BFF) Thrift Store Open House on November 1, 2025, at 601 W Lincoln Avenue, Yakima, was a huge success! The event drew an amazing turnout from neighbors, friends, and community members who came to show support, give advice, offer prayers, and donate generously.
A major highlight came when a larger thrift store donated a truckload of items, racks, and fixtures, giving BFF’s new store a strong start. The BFF crew and volunteers, who had been working late nights and long hours before the event — and continue even after — showed great dedication and teamwork in setting up, organizing, and bringing the mission to life. More than just a thrift store, the BFF space now includes: 🛍 Shop floors for clothing, shoes, bags, and books 🏢 The BFF administrative office 🤝 A community and resource center for meetings and outreach The BFF Thrift Store stands out for its unique mission: People before Possessions, Purpose before Profit. Every donation, purchase, and act of service builds a better future for someone. Donations and volunteers are still welcome — together, we’re making Yakima a place of hope, opportunity, and community impact. The opening of BFF Thrift Store marks another bold step in our mission — not just to provide affordable goods, but to create a hive of community activity and opportunity for those who need it most.
Opening November 1st at 601 W Lincoln Avenue, Yakima, the store will serve as both a resource center and a hub for empowerment — where young people and community members can learn soft skills, gain hands-on experience, and build pathways to personal and professional growth. Every purchase and every donation directly supports Better Future Finders’ programs — training, mentorship, empowerment, and community connection. We invite you to be part of this movement. Come donate items, skills, resources — whatever you can — to help us build a stronger community together. ✨ BFF Thrift Store — where every donation and purchase builds a better future. ✨ On the evening of September 15th, the Better Future Finders Young Leaders Club kicked off its first official meeting with energy and purpose. The meeting brought together pre-registered teens from Selah High School—Maya, Chrity, Abby—and others who had intended to join but were caught up in games and couldn’t make it to the 90-minute gathering. Hosted by our Youth Coordinator and a Youth Ambassador, the meeting was designed to ensure the Club aligns with their ideas and aspirations, while also checking their agreement with our mission and values. I had the privilege of presenting the Club’s vision and mission, unveiling our creed, and setting the tone for what’s ahead. A board member was also in attendance to show support and offer guidance. The atmosphere was hopeful and inspiring. We wrapped the formal part with a leadership game that sparked conversation and self-reflection, followed by a snack break where laughter, ideas, and new friendships formed. The evening ended with a promise: the youth left not just excited, but committed to bringing more peers onboard, to contribute their unique voices to the Club. It was a strong start—grounded in connection, clarity, and a shared belief in what Better Future Finders can help us become. At Better Future Finders (BFF), we don’t just talk about change, we create it. Every workshop, every outreach, every mentoring session is designed to empower students, youth, and families to connect with their future and discover their potential.
In 2024 and 2025, we hosted two Back to School with a Purpose events, giving over a hundred young people backpacks, winter coats, school supplies—and most importantly, vision, motivation, and leadership skills. But we don’t stop there. We reach out-of-school youth, organize homeless giveaways, and partner with organizations like DVR to support job applicants, workforce retention, and work-based learning opportunities. Our BFF Young Leaders Club Initiatives are shaping middle school students into tomorrow’s change-makers, while our upcoming Thrift Store will help sustain our community programs for years to come. We can’t do this alone. Support us through donations, volunteering, or partnerships, and help us lift lives in your community. |
